New Jetty at Magawish is ready
25.May
After a hard winter with several storms, our jetty was "screaming" for renovation, so we decided to give it a lift. Now, since few days we can be proud of better passage to the boats - the jetty is stronger, it was done longer, so even with high tides it will secure us dry feet when getting off the boats. Also Roger Jr is more happy - he do not have to pull the trolley in deep sand anymore. Keep,...

During their engaging nine days in the south the HEPCA mooring team surveyed all the moorings in the region. The team repaired 27 moorings, installed almost a dozen, in addition to conducting maintenance on the zone demarcation buoys at Samadai.
Sayed Marzouk the HEPCA Mooring Co-ordinator for the South expressed that he „is always thrilled by working on the pristine reefs on the south. And that he was delighted by the continued support provided by our members, which is the essence of the work that HEPCA does‰.
Our team came back with an important message; they ask that all boat operators follow HEPCA‚s Guidelines For Using Buoys; and report any violations or damaged moorings as soon as possible through the HEPCA website.
The HEPCA mooring team will return to the South soon and wishes you all an enjoyable diving season.

They say great things come in small packages, so what could be greater than hundreds of small packages? Summer diving in Sharm immediately conjures images of Whale Sharks, Mantas and Hammerheads. But this summer swim in from the blue and have your camera prepared to capture some of the best pictures it will ever take!
Fond of the rounded masked puffer fish? Then shoot 50 of them shimmying past? Colour up your pics with hundreds of baby parrotfish, or immerse yourself in huge shoals of Bat Fish. Heading for Shark and Yolanda? Then capture yourself amongst one of the largest army’s of Jack Fish in Sharm.
Are you an Open Water diver and not quite ready to head to Ras Mohammed yet? Don’t feel like your missing out! Ras Umm Sid was nicknamed the "mini Shark & Yolanda" by our guides last year, due to the permanent Barracuda bait ball, resident Napoleons, octopus and dare we mention the larger members of the Ray family??
So while your "pretending" not to be on the look out for the big 3, take a look around and enjoy the summer shows that the reef has to offer while you wait!

COLIBRI

Colona Sharm's faithful daily boat has got a new heart, figuratively speaking of course. Her old engine had done many a trip and worked long hours so has taken an early retirement! The replacement is a reconditioned imported engine that arrived from Europe last month. Here you can see the mechanics putting it in place.

And we can actually say her engine is more "Green" (excuse the pun) because with increased fuel efficiency over the old engine Colibri is now a little bit better for the planet and environment.

Now the time has come for our beloved donkey Roger to go to pension. He has been working for Colona Divers Hurghada for over 10 years and during those years he has become a famous donkey and everyone’s darling. For all the hard work he has done for us, he deserves only the best for his pension. Fortunately the Blue Moon Animal centre was willing to provide him a nice home, with a lot of space and other donkeys to play with. We went there to visit him and he seemed to be happy there. What could be better? No work, candy every day, donkey friends and a lot of space to run around.
The Blue Moon Animal centre does not only take care of animals in pension, but they also rescue animals from the streets that are mistreated or without a home. They have over 300 animals there and they are making the place even bigger! Most of the money comes from small donations and of course we here at Colona Hurghada are doing what we can to support them. You can read more about them at www.bluemoon-animalcenter.com
So next time you come to Colona Hurghada, you will meet Roger Jr., our new member in the Colona family. He is still a little stubborn and sometimes creates some extra action at the diving centre.

Stormy weather
01.Feb
Again the winter showed its mood. This time strong south wind and very high tide flooded the dive center as never before - the water came up to office door! The waves were crushing over the jetty and we could use small boats to sail thru Magawish beach:) We hope for no more winter weather surprises this year!
