ABOUT COLONA
|
|
|
Colona is always one step ahead
Freddy Storheil from Norway - founder of Colona Liveaboards and Colona
Dive Club sailed into Naama Bay (Sharm El Sheikh) with Colona II in 1977 when Naama
Bay was a quiet beach with only one dive center. You could find a small restaurant
"The Last Refugee" and a hotel. Over the next few years skipper Freddy
enjoyed showing many divers the delights of the Northern Red Sea until a break in
1979 - 1981 when he sailed round the world. On his return to Sharm in 1983, a short
while after the Sinai had been handed back to Egypt by Israel, Freddy reestablished
Colona as one of the leading dive operations in the area.
|
In 1991 Colona Dive Club was officially opened in Na'ama Bay and
soon became a popular choice for divers from all over Europe. The following year
Colona Dive Club purchased the new 16 meters "Colibri" dive boat.
In 1993 the new Colona V liveaboard boat was launched and is today
very popular amongst our European divers.
July 1996 saw the opening of the Colona Dive Club at the Oasis
Hotel. At this point Freddy decided that his family should get priority over his
passion for the Red Sea. So he set sail for Thailand and has established Colona
II as one of the first foreign boats to explore the Burma Banks area. He is now
doing regular charters in this area. To read more about Freddy´s charters

Colona Divers Sharm el Sheikh
|
|
In September 1998 Colona Dive Club moved to the Amar Sina Hotel.
Both the hotel & dive center have a wonderful and friendly atmosphere where
all of your diving holiday needs will be met.
Freddy moved his interests in the Colona group over to Thailand and passed the Egypt
area on to two new Scandinavians; Mr Michael Lehner and Mr Niklas Funk. The latter
was a Divemaster on Colona II when the Yolanda Wreck was still up on the reef at
Ras Mohammed, back in 1985. Their enthusiasm and drive has allowed Colona to grow.
